A valuable component of AutoPower’s comprehensive hosting and managed services portfolio is firewall management, featuring SonicWall firewalls as the technology of choice. This service enables AutoPower to constantly monitor customers’ security posture to mitigate cyberattacks that can cause business disruption and lost revenue.
As an industry thought leader, SonicWall regularly conducts extensive and ongoing research into the murky world of cybercrime and the ever-morphing nature of cyber threats. The publicly available, complimentary findings foster greater awareness and understanding of the changing threat environment and enables overseers, including the AutoPower team, to adjust their vigilance accordingly.
Threat trends by the numbers
In a recent threat report, SonicWall reported that its sensors detected cyberattack activity for 125% of a standard 40-hour work week—essentially signifying 50 hours of infiltration over the course of 40 working hours–which translates to companies having endured an average of 1,104 hours of critical attacks during 880 working hours in the first half of 2024 alone.
Disturbingly, the report also revealed increased attacks targeted at supply chains, as well as a 15% rise in ransomware attacks. Putting such threats into a bottom-line context, the average ransomware payment reached $850,700, with total related losses often exceeding $4.91 million when factoring in downtime and recovery costs.
Perhaps the most sobering finding from SonicWall’s detection engine was the shocking increase in never-before-seen malware variants: a total of 210,258 new variants were identified, an average of 637 per day. It is a stark reminder that the threat landscape is constantly changing and that security-conscious companies should rely on experts that continuously monitor networks—even “trusted” ones—to stay ahead of bad actors.
Firewall management is at the heart of AutoPower’s solution
AutoPower’s managed firewall service is designed to dramatically reduce potential damage from evolving threats through:
- Malware, virus, and intrusion protection
- Internet connection monitoring
- Vulnerability monitoring
- Cloud back-ups
- Quarterly firmware-to-firewall updates
To further fortify overall cyber defense, AutoPower supplements these firewall capabilities in three ways:
- Applying a combination of proprietary scripts and third-party applications to manage backups. This averts data loss by:
- Replicating the client’s server to a back-up server every 15 minutes
- Maintaining five days’ worth of server backups
- Maintaining seven days’ worth of database-only backups (prior to end of day)
- Maintaining 12 end-of-month database-only backups
- Maintaining one offsite backup of the client’s database
- Providing Trend Micro client-side antivirus protection to cover remote laptops, phones, desktop drives, etc.
- Offering professional training to make users more security-aware and to instill safe practices.
In the event an AutoPower customer suffers a cyberattack, these proven services and practices assure its data is intact and accessible, and its business operations are not disrupted.
